Let us make this plain: we follow the legal law. We feel that the legal law and our spiritual laws are two different things, but both can be followed without contradiction. Please bear this in mind. Legally, we follow whatever is the legal marriage laws in your location.

 

Spiritually is a different story.

 

What is seen as marriage is what we call a "Harmony" in the CotUO.  A Harmony can simply be two married people (gender does not matter) and often it is. However, a Harmony may contain more than two people. Harmonies include as many people as possible as long as everyone in the Harmony feels the same way.  

 

Please keep in mind that though a Harmony may have more than two people involved, we do not use that to skirt the laws of the country. So if you live in a country that the law says only two people are involved in a marriage, we follow that without question. Spiritually, a Harmony can be as many people as needed. And individuals in a Harmony do not have to live together, though often they do. There have been times when people in a Harmony are married to individuals who are not part of that Harmony or even belong to the church! The point is that a Harmony isn’t a legal, governmental thing. It's more than that. A Harmony is a spiritual thing, something that brings you close to The All. No laws can interfere with that, and there’s no reason to fight the law. The two can exist together.

 

Anyone involved in a Harmony is Secured. A person that does not belong to any Harmony is referred as Detached. Those terms are the same concept as “married” and “single.” A "Balance" is applied to the People involved in a Harmony. Eg. If Mike and Gina are a Harmony, Gina is Mike's Balance and Mike is Gina's Balance.

 

Of course, there are Harmony Rituals and Masses to bind or dissolve a Harmony. You will see those as you grow with us.
